88th BDE CERF Element holds Aviation Training

On 15 May 2010, members of the 88th BDE's CERF Element (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, High-Yield Explosive - Enhanced Response Force) received training in helicopter operations and a WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) refresher from soldiers of the 3/142nd Aviation Battalion, NYARNG. The training was located at the NYARNG Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF #1) in Ronkonkoma, NY.

The 88th BDE's primary mission is to augment NYARNG Soldiers as part of the larger CERF- Package, providing Medical Decontamination Operations at a potential WMD site.

The Officer In Charge (OIC) of the 88th BDE's CERF Element is CPT Lawrence Jung. SFC David Perez and SSG Steve Vera are the Section Leaders. CPT Vingrove Thomas (Safety Officer) conducted the Safety Briefing along with 1SG Anthony Bertorelli.

On Saturday, 3 May 2008, the NYG CERFP team deployed to Randall's Island for the joint

NYARNG / New York Guard / FDNY exercise “Operation Civil Support.”

The 88th Brigade “New York’s Own” appeared in force.

Their goal: Be prepared for protecting the citizens of New York City!
